In September John Lewis became the first major UK retailer to get rid of their 'boy' and 'girl' labels from their clothing.

This was a controversial topic and was discussed heavily on social media and in the media. I researched more into this to try and find the people or groups that were putting pressure on retailers to stop gender dividing their products and I found Let Toys be Toys
Let Toys be Toys are a campaign group that are asking the toy and publishing industries to stop dividing their products into gender categories. They believe this is limiting children's interests and that children should have the freedom to chose without retailers or manufacturers deciding for them. Today I spoke to Tessa who is part of the group about what their aims are and what they achieved in terms of getting retailers to change?
It was interesting to hear about the successes that the group have had- they started in 2012 and to date they have managed to get 14 major UK retailers to take down the 'boy' and 'girl' signs in their toy aisles.
I have decided not to feature the interview in my 7 minute documentary as I don't think there's enough space to add another voice in at this stage. However what Tessa has said shows how the 'gender neutral' movement is growing so I have decided to feature it under the interview section of this website instead.
