Yesterday I had my interview with Quinn Savard via Skype. Quinn is based in Massachusetts and brings up her nine-year-old daughter gender neutral. I found Quinn through a blog post she had written where she describes her experience of what it has been like bringing up her daughter gender neutral.
Quinn was very engaging throughout the interview and spoke very openly about the ups and downs of raising her daughter gender neutral. She mentioned lots of interesting anecdotes throughout the interview, such as how it felt when daughter decided to cut her long hair which you can listen to below.
When listening back to the interview I also found it interesting comparing her experience to Alex's. Alex and his wife made a conscious decision before their son was born that they were going to bring him up with gender neutral principles. However Quinn took the lead from her daughter when deciding to raise her gender neutral, as she started dressing in boys clothes and was switching between gender pronouns.
I have also found when listening back to the interview that there is a slight hissing noise in the background. When it comes to editing I am going to have to find out how to minimise this background noise as I am very keen to include Quinn's interview in my 7 minute documentary.
